5 Ways To Have A Re-fresh

5 Ways To Have A Re-fresh

Have you ever felt life was just ticking along.  All’s ok, but wouldn’t it be nice to do a few things a little differently, just take a little risk now and again, be a little impulsive to spark some excitement or jolt a little enthusiasm through your body?  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.  Trying new things is great for the mind, it gives your brain a re-boot, takes you away from doing the same things day in day out and you never know, you may just add something else to your life that you love or find something new that you’re good at.  Being adventurous is good for the soul.

Be impulsive!

Being impulsive is exciting. Continue reading “5 Ways To Have A Re-fresh”

A Slow Meander to York – Part 2 – The Selby Canal & Our First Challenge

A Slow Meander to York – Part 2 – The Selby Canal & Our First Challenge

We bought ‘Head in the Clouds’, over sixteen years ago, she was an empty rusty shell and has been transformed into our home.  There are still many things needing to be done to her, but we were able to move aboard last October and so far, we love living the boat life.

You can read this post, ‘It’s time to sell up and live on a boat where I explain a little more about her and the transformation so far.  Although we’ve had her for so long, we have only, so far enjoyed short journeys, so we thought it was time to try a bigger trip and venture up to York, which was always one ‘cruising‘ journey we wanted to do.  We were quite excited about the trip, it was a big deal for us because:- Continue reading “A Slow Meander to York – Part 2 – The Selby Canal & Our First Challenge”

A Slow Meander to York – Part 1 – A Bumpy Start

A Slow Meander to York – Part 1 – A Bumpy Start

Since selling up and moving onto our boat October 2017, it seemed to take quite a while to get ourselves settled in, which meant it took quite a while before going out  for a cruise, although we did have our first Winter on the boat, survived, loved it and were toasty warm.  Jon was also busy doing quite a bit of maintenance work on the boat which included booking her in to dry dock to get her bottom blacked – sounds painful, I know, but it’s just something that needs doing every few years, consisting of the boat being out of the water in order for us to check the hull, do any repairs or welding jobs and re-paint.  We were booked in for the end of July 2018, so we thought we’d take the opportunity to spend early July cruising up the Selby Canal and the River Ouse towards York and maybe beyond and as our neighbours were on their way to Knottingley to have their bottom blacked, we thought we’d join them for the first part of our slow meander.

The first leg of the journey would be a days leisurely cruise from Rotherham to The New Junction Canal just past Barnby Dun, where we’d be mooring for that evening, but it was to be a disappointing start for us. Continue reading “A Slow Meander to York – Part 1 – A Bumpy Start”

We did it! We moved onto the boat!

We did it! We moved onto the boat!

Well, after months of planning and after selling my business and our house, we finally made the move out of our 3 bedroom house into our broad beam, narrow canal barge and are in the process of making it home.  We’ve been in a few weeks now and I can safely say we are both knackered. Living the Dream

Living the Dream

There comes a time when you turn around and your children choose not to hold your hand when crossing the road anymore, they are a little more independent every day, they begin to tackle their own problems, you find out they had a cold and you didn’t even know about it, but they got healthy again without you fussing around them with hot honey and lemon drinks, hot water bottles & without those ‘mummy’ cuddles.   You turn around and they’ve grown up.
