The Stranger With A Cage

The Stranger With A Cage

The following short story is my own theory as to why a young stranger dressed as he was, carrying a strange item was walking in a wood.  We crossed paths in my local wood one morning early in July, you can read about it Here. I also invite you to write your own interpretation of this unusual young mans story.

……………………..

Jaideep watched as his mother sat heavily in shame, head in hands as he gently broke the news to her.

“How are we going to deal with this?” She exclaimed, “you know they don’t have any more chances Jaideep, what are we going to do?”

Jaideep slowly sat down opposite his mother.  He was a smart, gentle young man who, under unfortunate circumstances had become the head of the family at an early age, but had taken on the responsibility extremely well.  His twin sisters, on the other hand Continue reading “The Stranger With A Cage”

5 Ways To Have A Re-fresh

5 Ways To Have A Re-fresh

Have you ever felt life was just ticking along.  All’s ok, but wouldn’t it be nice to do a few things a little differently, just take a little risk now and again, be a little impulsive to spark some excitement or jolt a little enthusiasm through your body?  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.  Trying new things is great for the mind, it gives your brain a re-boot, takes you away from doing the same things day in day out and you never know, you may just add something else to your life that you love or find something new that you’re good at.  Being adventurous is good for the soul.

Be impulsive!

Being impulsive is exciting. Continue reading “5 Ways To Have A Re-fresh”

Walking The Lizard – Church Cove to Cadgwith

Walking The Lizard – Church Cove to Cadgwith

If you’ve ever visited Cornwall, UK you may know that ‘The Lizard’ is the name of the peninsula in southern Cornwall, UK, with Lizard Point being near the most southernly point of the British mainland.  Whilst down there over Easter, we did some beautiful walking Jon and I, along with Jon’s mum, dad and their dog, Gordon and of course our two furry friends, Rosie and Millie.  We filled our trusty backpacks with a few bits and bobs, including some lovely freshly made Cornish Pasties and headed out for a good ramble. How Arriving In Fernie Became An Education – La Niña Who?

How Arriving In Fernie Became An Education – La Niña Who?

Ever heard of a Polar Vortex, El Niño or La Niña?  They’re words I’ve heard of, but until now, not really known the meaning of.

View from the top of ‘The Bear’ chair lift

As we landed in Canada on our snowboarding holiday, we expected more snow.  We came here last year and the snow was incredible, it was the powdery snow skiers and snowboarders dream of and apparently here in Fernie, it was pretty much nailed on to be the same every year, because on average they get up to 37 feet of snow falling every year. #ThursdayThrowback – How To Create a Utility Room on a Boat

#ThursdayThrowback – How To Create a Utility Room on a Boat

I first wrote this post in February last year when we’d only been living on the boat for three months and were short on space.  Well, this ‘utility room’ is the most useful room on board and it would be so difficult to live without it now.  It is a spare room with double bed, and yes we have had guests sleep in it.  It is the cats room, where the litter tray is and where they are fed, it’s a great store room, cloak room and it’s where the washing machine lives and we have lines up along the ceiling creating a great drying space.  It’s proved to be a brilliant room so thought I’d share it again.  Here’s the post again explaining how it was created:

In October of 2017 my partner and I picked up the last of the packing boxes, handed over the keys and walked away from our house which we’d lived in for 14 happy years. We did this with certainty in our minds that we were doing the right thing as time had very quickly, but inevitably moved on, my boys had moved away and were happily getting on with their own lives so it was now time to think out of the box, move away from a dangerously boring ‘rut’ we could’ve easily have settled in to and do something a little different ourselves.

We moved onto our canal boat, aptly named, ‘Head in the Clouds’.  No, it’s not beautifully finished, in fact there’s still quite a lot to fix, maintain and build, but hey… “we’ll manage to live on it while we finish doing it up right?” we had both said. A Slow Meander to York – Part 2 – The Selby Canal & Our First Challenge

A Slow Meander to York – Part 2 – The Selby Canal & Our First Challenge

We bought ‘Head in the Clouds’, over sixteen years ago, she was an empty rusty shell and has been transformed into our home.  There are still many things needing to be done to her, but we were able to move aboard last October and so far, we love living the boat life.

You can read this post, ‘It’s time to sell up and live on a boat where I explain a little more about her and the transformation so far.  Although we’ve had her for so long, we have only, so far enjoyed short journeys, so we thought it was time to try a bigger trip and venture up to York, which was always one ‘cruising‘ journey we wanted to do.  We were quite excited about the trip, it was a big deal for us because:- Continue reading “A Slow Meander to York – Part 2 – The Selby Canal & Our First Challenge”
