Fun on a Lake, A Good Book and Planning a Canal Cruise

Fun on a Lake, A Good Book and Planning a Canal Cruise

Last Sunday saw the sun shining again, so we packed a picnic and headed to Rother Valley Country Park.   Set in the Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, the park has 4 artificial lakes, nature reserves and plenty of recreational activities, including a water skiing/wake boarding cable system, an inflatable obstacle course, a water sports area, including hiring of paddle boards and various types of boats, there’s also a sailing club and a separate lake solely for jet skiers. There are also plenty of lovely walks to enjoy  around the lakes and nature reserves and also some biking routes. Continue reading “Fun on a Lake, A Good Book and Planning a Canal Cruise”

A list of things to do at Sherwood Pines

A list of things to do at Sherwood Pines

The Forestry commission have excelled themselves in developing a wonderful area for all ages to enjoy nature at its best within the beautiful surroundings of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire.  Sherwood Pines is open every day except Christmas day, from 8am until dusk and has large, scenic areas for parking.  It cost us £6 to park for the whole day, which we felt was well worth it for the great day we had in such a gorgeous place.  There is so much to do at Sherwood Pines… Continue reading “A list of things to do at Sherwood Pines”

Knocked sideways!!

Knocked sideways!!

For the last 3 years or so, I’ve had a little niggle in the groin area.  I have generally managed to ignore it for most of the time, carrying on with my dog walking business, mountain biking, snowboarding, surfing and walking, being too busy to do anything about it and hoping it would just fix itself.  Since selling my business and knowing it hadn’t just gone away, I thought I’d pop into the Doc’s to see what they had to say… Continue reading “Knocked sideways!!”

#Throwback Thursday – A cheeky little canal cruise to Sprotbrough – And relax…
Millie modelling her life jacket 🙂

I wrote this post last May, before we’d sold the house and moved onto the boat.  We are so looking forward to cruising soon as work commitments and other practicalities have delayed us, but in the mean time it was nice to have a look back at one of our favourite trips.  It was also our cats maiden voyage…

Posted May 2017 – With a long Bank holiday weekend behind us, Jon and I had asked ourselves the question…a short jaunt in Polly the camper van or a little trip out in the canal boat? Continue reading “#Throwback Thursday – A cheeky little canal cruise to Sprotbrough – And relax…”

It’s National Puppy Day!

It’s National Puppy Day!

Yeahy! I couldn’t let this day pass!

Most readers of my blog will know that two members of our family are our dogs, Rosie (Collie) and Mille (Pug).  We love them, they are such characters so I thought I’d embarrass them both by showing their puppy photo’s as it’s National Puppy Day. Continue reading “It’s National Puppy Day!”

Mud? Who cares!

Mud? Who cares!

For as long as I can remember I have been around dogs.  I grew up with dogs and as soon as I left home and was able to care for one myself well, I didn’t hesitate.

Dogs have been a major part of my life and I can’t imagine my life without them.

I have spoken in previous posts about selling up to live on a boat, well the business I sold in 2017 was a Dog Walking and Petsitting business which I set up and ran for four years and if we hadn’t made the decision to move away and live on our boat, then I’d still be there dog walking and Continue reading “Mud? Not an easy journey to Schladming…

Not an easy journey to Schladming…

Yes it’s that time of year again to don the big boots, big coat, gloves, helmet and cover the face to the elements, strap a slippery board to the feet and throw ourselves off a snow covered mountain…It’s the long awaited and exciting Snowboarding time!

This time we flew off to somewhere totally new to us, Schladming, Austria.  We have been a few times to Austria and the journeys have been easy peasy, but this particular area was new to us and it certainly didn’t disappoint, but the journey there was not the best…   Continue reading “Not an easy journey to Schladming…”

One year on…

One year on…

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and much merriment!

For us, like most people, Christmas was a time to switch off, take a step back and spend quality time with family.

We had a great Christmas in our camper van, Polly.  We drove up North on Christmas Eve to visit with my family where we spent the time between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day generally eating too much, drinking too much, playing games, (which got quite raucous at times) and laughing a lot, then on Boxing Day evening we drove down South to do much of the same with Jon’s family.  We are here now to see in the New Year in Cornwall. Over 50 and ‘In Love’ again

Over 50 and ‘In Love’ again

[Sponsored post]

We’ve all heard of dating agencies right?  But did you know about the over 50’s dating scene? Okay, okay I can hear you all shouting, yes of course we do”, well where the hell have I been?  I didn’t know there was such a thing as an ‘over 50’s dating agency’, but there is, senior dating is a thing! When sad news triggers good memories

When sad news triggers good memories

When I heard the sad news that David Cassidy had passed away, I’d just made a cuppa and was sitting down to work on a blog post I was in the middle of writing, but instead I just sat and contemplated for a while.  Hearing this news sparked a few memories for me. We did it! We moved onto the boat!

We did it! We moved onto the boat!

Well, after months of planning and after selling my business and our house, we finally made the move out of our 3 bedroom house into our broad beam, narrow canal barge and are in the process of making it home.  We’ve been in a few weeks now and I can safely say we are both knackered.
