I awoke this morning really early, to the sound of very noisy birds, singing & twittering to their hearts content, not caring at all that there are people trying to sleep on this boat. I was quite excited because today I was travelling to London. Continue reading “A day of contrasts”
(First posted 5 Mar 2017) This was more or less a year ago now and when I think back to the amount of work which went into actually achieving this I’m really quite amazed it only took a year. From selling a business and a house, to packing up, I wrote another post on de-cluttering, storing everything we couldn’t take with us to the boat, then moving on, (doesn’t actually sound a lot does it?) What a year!! Just made me smile when I read this again, we’d just come back from our first visit to Canada and during that holiday had made a BIG decision… It’s time to sell up and live on a boat
In October of last year my partner and I picked up the last of the packing boxes, handed over the keys and walked away from our house which we’d lived in for 14 happy years. We did this with certainty in our minds that we were doing the right thing as time had very quickly, but inevitably moved on, my boys had moved away and were happily getting on with their own lives so it was now time to think out of the box, move away from a dangerously boring ‘rut’ we could’ve easily have settled in to and do something a little different ourselves.
We moved onto our canal boat, aptly named, ‘Head in the Clouds’. No, it’s not beautifully finished, in fact there’s still quite a lot to fix, maintain and build, but hey… “we’ll manage to live on it while we finish doing it up right?” we had both said. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and much merriment!
For us, like most people, Christmas was a time to switch off, take a step back and spend quality time with family.
We had a great Christmas in our camper van, Polly. We drove up North on Christmas Eve to visit with my family where we spent the time between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day generally eating too much, drinking too much, playing games, (which got quite raucous at times) and laughing a lot, then on Boxing Day evening we drove down South to do much of the same with Jon’s family. We are here now to see in the New Year in Cornwall. Continue reading “One year on…”
It took a while, but we finally moved on board our boat – Head in the Clouds. Our new home!
Well, after months of planning and after selling my business and our house, we finally made the move out of our 3 bedroom house into our broad beam, narrow canal barge and are in the process of making it home. We’ve been in a few weeks now and I can safely say we are both knackered. Continue reading “We did it! We moved onto the boat!”
There comes a time when you turn around and your children choose not to hold your hand when crossing the road anymore, they are little more independent every day, they begin to tackle their own problems, you find out they had a cold and you didn’t even know about it, but they got healthy again without you fussing around them with hot honey and lemon drinks, hot water bottles & without those ‘mummy’ cuddles. You turn around and they’ve grown up. Continue reading “Living the Dream”
Moving onto the boat is becoming reality
The whole change of lifestyle and moving onto the boat thing is moving quite rapidly now. Continue reading “It’s all happening…”
So since returning from our amazing time in Canada, we’ve been suffering from post holiday blues. Continue reading “It’s time to sell up and live on a boat…”
