My First Bloggers Bash Experience

I bought the ticket a few months ago after knowing I’d become serious about Blogging. Β I was a little apprehensive about it, but wanting to meet other bloggers, networking and eager to learn more was my reason for buying the ticket and it certainly didn’t disappoint, because the second I walked through the door to The George IV I was welcomed by familiar faces and made to feel at ease straight away. Β The room soon filled up with faces I’d seen from the blogs I follow and the smiles and hugs said it all, I knew it Β was going to be a lovely day.

It was plainly obvious that the committee of the Bash had worked very hard in making sure the day a success. Β The venue was great and I thought, a perfect distance out of the centre of London to bypass the crowds which were there for another event on that same day…didn’t Meghan look amazing?!Β  Luckily we were able to catch sneaky peaks of the Royal wedding on the TV’s in the pub πŸ™‚

A day of putting real faces to the blogs I read regularly, the enjoyment of making new friends, the introduction to new blogs and the all important tips of the trade digested.

A big congratulations to all those fabulous bloggers who won awards!!

Me? well I did win something on the day, which I am ‘still’ really gob smacked’ about…

There was a writing competition for the Bloggers Bash. Β Enter a short story, only 300 words, around the theme of ‘Royalty’. Β I’m no author, but thought I’d give it a go so entered…I only went and won 2nd Place!!!Β Β I’d never written a story in my life before, so was so shocked and I’m chuffed to bits!

(Congrats to the winner, I didn’t actually hear the name as I was busy being really overwhelmed and shocked to be getting 2nd, so if somebody could let me know who won 1st, I’d appreciate it as I’d love to read their story)

Here’s a link to my story, if you fancy a read…‘The Royal House’

I totally enjoyed the Bloggers Bash and do recommend it to any blogger, if you can get there. Β Thank you to the committee, you did a great job and thank you to the judges who thought my story was good enough to win 2nd place πŸ™‚

Here are a few photo’s I took at the bash of some of the lovely people I met that day.

Looking forward to next year already! πŸ™‚

  1. I’ve been absent for a while whilst I executed a rather major move but now that I am vaguely settled I am gradually immersing again in the blogging pool and so glad to be back reading posts and interacting in this place. I have missed it tremendously and it turns out that getting back on this pony is making me feel more settled – I guess the continuity is helpful.

Anyhooooo …. I’m thrilled too read your account of the Bloggers Bash which was just the wrong timing for me this time (I moved on April 25th and it was too soon to make a big trip) but which I absolutely intend to attend next time. I shall key the date in my diary and work around it. Congratulations to you for getting your runner up in the writing competition … I enjoyed your essay when your published it on this blog and I have just re-read it and enjoyed it again. My daughters used to chant ‘First’s the worst, Second is best, third’s the one with the hairy chest and fourth’s the golden eeeeaaaaagle’ when they were at school. So that is my reward for your brilliance!

    Toodle-oo xx

    1. Thank you Geoff, looking forward to seeing what colour your beard is next year πŸ™‚

  2. Hmmmm – I left a comment on the post but it doesn’t seem to have showed up so here goes again and I apologise if you get it twice!

I have been absent for some time whilst I executed a rather major move but now that I am vaguely settled I am back in the blogging pool and really enjoying reading and interacting again.

I was not able to make the event this year since the timing was too difficult (I made my move on 25th April and it was not viable to return to Europe so soon) but I fully intend to go next year and will key the date into my calendar as soon as it is announced and strive to work round it.

Many congratulations on your runner up award for the writing. I read your essay at the time and really enjoyed it so I can vouch that your placing was richly deserved. My children used to chant at school ‘First’s the word, second is best, third’s the one with the hairy chest and fourth’s the Golden Eeeeeeaaaaagle’ … true wisdom I am certain πŸ˜€ xx

    1. Haha that’s so funny, I’ve not heard that before πŸ™‚ I hope the move went well Osyth and I look forward to seeing you there next year because I do intend on going again. I hope you enjoy your home and great to see you’re back in the blogging world πŸ™‚

  3. It was lovely to meet you, Sam – so glad you had a great day! Congratulations again on your story prize, too πŸ™‚ (Marjorie Mallon, who blogs over at Kyrosmagica, won first)

    1. Thank you, it was a fabulous day and the best thing about it was meeting all the great bloggers πŸ™‚

  4. Your story is really good, I can see why it won a prize! I’d never be brave enough to go to a Bloggers Bash, I don’t consider myself a ‘real’ blogger with my little blog, and would be overwhelmed by all those famous bloggers……..

  5. Maybe one of these days I’ll be able to attend the Bloggers Bash too! We had a mini blogger meet-up last fall here in California (it was just four of us who happened to be in the area at the same time πŸ™‚ ) which was wonderful. Maybe we can turn that into a Blogger Bash West event! Congrats on the win (second place is certainly a win in my book) for your short story!

  6. Very well done Sam with the short story, I thought it was great too.
Glad that you enjoyed your day. X

  7. Hi Sam it was lovely meeting you at the Bloggers Bash. It is such an awesome event which I have enjoyed each and every time. Well done for coming second in the writing competition. I shall read your entry. I was shocked when I found I won first prize!

  8. Oh well done Sam! I’m sure the Bloggers Bash was an amazing experience and I was glad my friend and fellow Aussie, Deb from Deb’s World was able to attend and also meet you. Perhaps I will be there next year and we could meet IRL? I’m happy you did so well in the writing competition and that you had a great time. It has been wonderful to connect with you. Have a great week! Don’t forget to link up with us at Midlife Share the Love Party it is open now.

  9. Hi Sam, first of all, many congratulations on your story being placed 2nd in The Blog Post competition. You may never have written a short story before, but I think this is a sign that perhaps you should continue to do so, and to enter more competitions.
It was lovely to meet you. Thank you so much for coming along. It was a wonderful day, and seeing all the smiles on the faces of all those who attended was worth all the hard work organising the event.
See you at the next one. πŸ˜€

  10. I love this recap Sam, it was such a fun day meeting everyone and like you I knew some of the bloggers already from their blogs, but meeting them in person was so special. It was great chat with you and we have so much in common, not only with our blogging buddies and I hope we can stay in touch. Congrats again on your award, so well deserved. πŸ™‚
