The Annual Bloggers Bash Writing Competition 2018

This is my second entry for the Annual Bloggers Bash Writing Competition.

The theme is Royalty and it can only be 300 words, wish me luck 😉

A Royal Encounter

I sat on the grass reading a book about the young Henry VIII. I have always been drawn to this past king of our country for some reason.

A football rolled gently and knocked my thigh, as I looked up ready with a smile, I was taken aback.

“I’m so sorry, my little nephew hasn’t perfected his football skills.”  The softly spoken words were from a young man. He was very handsome and took my breath away, his eyes sparkled and he had a wonderful smile, his hair and stubble were a reddish hue.

I stumbled with my words, “Er, oh no, please don’t worry.” I flustered.  My ready smile was still on my lips as his hand reached for mine.  I glanced at my book then back at this handsome stranger who looked just as my imagination had allowed me to believe Henry the king had looked in his youth.

My peripheral vision noticed men in suits speaking to their cuffs approaching quickly, but my handsome stranger whom I couldn’t take my eyes off, waved them away. Then as he bade farewell and offered his regret again in disturbing me, I tried to speak, but he was already running back to his nephew, taking the little boys hand and then walking away.

I was delighted when he turned to wave at me and as I brought up my hand to wave back I noticed an envelope he’d placed in my hand.

It was then that I remembered listening to the news that morning, the newsreader had said that Prince Harry and his bride to be were to give five wedding invitations to random people today.

I held my book and the envelope to my chest, “Could this be real?” I looked around as people with microphones ran toward me.
